The economic relations between the two countries are not at the point they‘d wish to be.

A lot of factors is responsible for this uneasy  situation. In any case there is a potential that has to be fully exploited especially by the private sector.

In 2007 the trade deficit at the expenses of the greek side reached the 464.3 millions euros. The greek exports to Ireland amounted to 59,6 millions euros and the irish exports to the greek market to the 523,9 millions euros. The same year we remark a reduction of the greek exports by 11,9% and an increase of the irish-ones by 20,7%.

80% of the Irish exports consist  of pharmaceutical products, informatics,, electronics, chemical, machines, dairy products and drinks.

The greek exports consist mainly of low technology products and vary every year according to the existing stastistics. Mainly they consist of cables, elevators, juices and fresh fish. Clothes and textile is a second sector of interest. A lot of greek food products arrive to Ireland through the channels of the british market. The recent familiriazation of the mediterrannean products by the Irish consumers creates potentailly perspectives for the greek products.
