SK Retina is an ophthalmology practice serving the Sarasota, Bradenton, and Venice, Florida communities. Dr. Chris
Stelton, MD is a board-certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who takes a personal interest in each of his
patients and uses advanced technology to help ensure the best outcomes. Dr. Stelton’s patient-centered practice at
SK Retina offers innovative procedures and therapies to diagnose and treat a range of eye conditions, including
macular degeneration, eye floaters, macular holes, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachments, eye trauma, vein
occlusions, posterior vitreous detachment, and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Stelton has advanced training in minimally
invasive, small incision, sutureless eye surgery techniques. He has excellent outcomes for retinal detachment,
macular hole, epiretinal membranes, vitreous hemorrhage, and vitrectomy for eye floaters. Dr. Stelton is credentialed
at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Stelton was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. His father served in the United States Air Force for thirty years, and as a
result, Dr. Stelton grew up in many places including Texas, Florida, Louisiana, the Philippines, and Germany.
Dr. Stelton completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from Texas AM University, where he
graduated Summa Cum Laude. He attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center and
was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Stelton completed both an ophthalmology residency and a prestigious sub-specialty fellowship in vitreoretinal
surgery at the Emory Eye Center at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, one of the preeminent
ophthalmology programs in the country. During his time in Atlanta, Dr. Stelton worked at the Veteran’s Affairs
Hospital providing retina care for Veterans experiencing eye conditions associated with aging, including complications
from diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachments. Dr. Stelton is a consultant for Google on a
project aimed at diagnosing diabetic retinopathy using ocular photography.
Aside from his active membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Stelton is an Eagle Scout, and in
his free time, still enjoys camping and fishing. He and his wife are also parishioners at St. Thomas More. They have
two young children who keep them on their toes.
