I worked with the long-established Hampshire-based firm for several years, before moving on the work in the New Forest and surrounding Dorset area for the next few years until 1998. During this period of time, I worked for several different thatchers, each having their own unique style and method.

For the next 12 years or so, I moved to the West Country in the hope of finding local work, and to enjoy the surrounding area. Instead, I found myself working even further afield; everywhere from East Virginia in the USA to the banks of the Mersey in Liverpool.
