The American Society in London was founded in 1895.  It has, from its inauguration, embraced in its membership prominent and influential Americans in London; it has occupied a foremost position and commanded the first allegiance of the so-called “American Colony”.  The American Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s becomes ex-Officio its Honorary President.  To-day, the permanent offices of the Society are to be found at the English Speaking Union.

The festivals arranged by the Society on national holidays not only stimulate patriotism, but tend also to foster those sentiments of mutual respect and affection which bind together the peoples of America and Great Britain.  The Fourth of July and Thanksgiving celebrations are carried through with dignity, and take the form of a dinner and ball on both the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving Day.

Any citizen of the United States is eligible for election by the General Committee.  It is the patriotic duty of every United States citizen who has taken up residence in this country to join the Society.
