The British Ladies Club of Luxembourg (BLC) was formed in 1969 by a small group of British women living in Luxembourg and is now a non-profit making organisation (asbl). Despite its name, it is essentially a social club for English speaking women living in and around Luxembourg regardless of nationality. One of the primary aims of the BLC is to help newcomers settle into Luxembourg life and to provide social contact for all.

The Club has approximately 700 members when membership reaches its peak during the club year, only half of whom are British. Altogether, there are about forty different nationalities represented within the Club. Dutch, Irish and American being some of the larger groups. We also have members living in France, Belgium and Germany, especially close to the Luxembourg borders.

The age range spans from women in their early 20’s to women over 60.

The Club is vibrant, varied and successfully responds to peoples interests and needs. Members are encouraged to set up a group or activity which specifically interests them and which the Club does not already have. We have found that this, in turn, assists in allowing members to formulate friendship and support networks which fit their own individual needs and which, frequently, are life long.

This year, 2009, sees the 40th Anniversary of the formation of the BLC, and the the club has put together a programme of monthly celebratory events, the flagship event is a Black Tie Gala Dinner Dance to be held in June.

The club is also running a series of stories, written by members, of their early experiences in Luxembourg, and hopefully this will lead up to the present day.
