Basel- Irish Club

The importance of Irish clubs for the emigrant populace and for enhancing the profile of Ireland in the country is widely acknowledged. In the fall of 2005, Ambassador Lynch contacted an Irish citizen in Basel (later to become a founding member !) and asked her to attend a meeting about the possibility of setting up an Irish Club in Basel. As Irish citizens are not required to register with the Embassy on arrival in Switzerland making contact is difficult. She kindly agreed to attend the meeting and followed up by arranging a meeting in Basel for anyone who was interested in forming an Irish club. A number of meetings and brain storming sessions were held to determine what the interested parties expected of such a club and to find a way forward. In early 2006, the Basel Irish Club was formed.
