Vacational Studies 4-week residential English Language Courses for young people aged 11-17 have been running for 34 years. We are 'Accredited by the British Council' and were last inspected in 2003.Our Courses are totally international. We take small numbers from each country to ensure that English is the main medium of communication among the students. This emphasis on the practical use of English is combined with a full extra-curricular programme helping young people to learn 'English internationally.'THE STUDENTSWe accept boys and girls - near-beginners, intermediate and more advanced students - aged 11 to 17.The Courses are sports- orientated and encourage good social development in a community situation.THE SCHOOLSWe have two Schools, both near Newbury in Berkshire. Newbury is 45 minutes west of Heathrow and 30 minutes south of Oxford. The Courses are of 4 weeks' duration. Classes are graded according to age and ability in English.ACCOMMODATIONThis is in small dormitories in separate blocks for boys and girls. 18 year-olds have single study-bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIESThere is a regular sports programme. Every day there is a major social event.There are three excursions, including London.Optionally avaiable are theatre visits, tennis coaching and an Institute of Linguists examination in Spoken/Written English.HOW WE LOOK AFTER STUDENTSOur staff:student ratio of about 1:8 ensures that students are well looked-after.During the Course, progress reports are sent to parents.
