Established in 1979, Meridian School of English in Portsmouth provides a wide range of standard and intensive English courses for adults and young learners. These include General English course, Exam Preparation, Teaching Skills for Teachers and a Summer Residential programme.

Located mainly on Portsea Island, Portsmouth is the United Kingdom's only island city, as a result, Portsmouth ferry port is one of the busiest in the UK, carrying approximately 2.2 million people per year. It is home to the Royal Navy, the University of Portsmouth to Portsmouth Football Club, founded in 1898, and to Meridian School of English! Learn English in Portsmouth - home to Charles Dickens and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and location used in a number of films and television shows such as Mr Bean, Tomorrow Never Dies (James Bond) and Les Miserables.

Portsmouth English Language School
Our English school in Portsmouth is located on the third floor of the beautiful and historic Portsmouth Guildhall. There is lift access to the third floor.

There are currently 11 Classrooms and a computer room for general internet and resource access with a total capacity for 114 students.

Quiet Room
We have a quiet room which is available for prayers and meditation if required by students learning English in Portsmouth.

Cafe
There is a café in the Guildhall which is open to both the public and students of the Meridian Portsmouth school of English. The café can cater for over 70 people.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
Surrounded by working docks and historic buildings, the Historic Dockyard is a great place to experience 800 years of naval history.The dockyard is home to many world famous historic ships such as HMS Victory (Nelson’s flagship), HMS Warrior (the world’s first iron-hulled, armoured warship) and you can also see the remains of King Henry VIII’s flagship in the Mary Rose museum.

Spinnaker Tower
Overlooking Portsmouth Harbour at Gunwharf Quays, the Spinnaker Tower is the tallest structure in the UK accessible to the public and Portsmouth’s tallest landmark, with fantastic views of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Harbour and across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

Nightlife in Portsmouth
Since the heady days of the dance music explosion in the early nineties, Portsmouth has gained a well-deserved reputation as one of the UK's favourite clubbing destinations. Whatever floats your musical boat, you will find it in one of the dozens of bars or numerous nightclubs throughout the city.

The Isle of Wight
Portsmouth is a gateway to the beautiful Isle of Wight, England’s largest island and smallest county. A catamaran journey takes 20 minutes from Portsmouth harbour across the Solent to the fourth longest and oldest pier in the UK at Ryde or you can try the 10 minute trip by hovercraft from Southsea beach.

Queen Victoria loved the Isle of Wight and you can still visit her favourite home of Osborne House as well as Carisbrooke Castle where King Charles I was held prisoner during the English Civil War.
