My name is Gustavo Pérez. I'm a certified licensed spanish psychologist (P1523) living and working in Gran Canaria. Though not fully bilingual, my knowledge of the english language (mainly as a result of a full year studying at the USA) has allowed me to conduct several psychotherapies in the last years in that language, both in Barcelona where I used to live, and in Las Palmas, where I live now.
I qualified as a clinical psychologist through an intensive 3-year internship at Hospital Clìnic, in Barcelona (1994-1996) under a cognitive-behavioral model, which I deserved through a nationwide exam held by the Ministry of Health. Afterwards, I worked for the Psychiatry Research Institute in Hospital del Mar, Barcelona, mostly on personality disorders and anxiety disorders, while I simultaneously held 2 private practices at the same city. I completed additional training in couple therapy and humanistic therapies, and finally in 2009 I moved back to the Canary Islands, where I was born, to keep my private practice here (so far, about 21 years of experience).
I've worked mostly in anxiety, mood, adaptive and personality disorders, though I'm competently trained too in couple therapy, and non-clinical or growth psychotherapy.
My orientation is cognitive-behavioral for most symptomatic demands, and more of a humanistic-constructivist orientation for personality-adaptation issues. It depends on both the demand and the characteristics of the client, and both the specific orientation and pace of visits are flexible and consensual. I don't do psychoanalysis or family therapy.
