Wingate School was opened in 1982 with seven pupils aged between 5 and 6 years of age. From the start it was a multi national school; the first seven pupils being of five different nationalities. It has grown steadily throughout the years. It now has over 400 pupils and students from nursery to sixth form. The children come from many nationalities currently about 66% are British.
This new service grew in popularity year on year. Infant provision extended to Juniors and then on to secondary education. The Nursery was added in recent years and expansion has been completed with the introduction of the Wingate Sixth, now in its fifth year of preparing students for university entrance (British, Spanish and other countries).
The student and pupil population continues to be drawn from many nationalities. Teaching is in English and, unusually for British schools in Spain, so is the language of the playground. Whatever a student’s family language, an education at Wingate ensures their competency in English. For the majority of students learning Spanish is also a key aim. Spanish teaching is organised so that beginners can gain a good grounding while others are taught at the same standard as in Spanish schools.
