Vilamoura International School

Vilamoura International School – CIV – wasfounded in 1984 focused on international education, serving students from the Vilamoura area (one of the main touristic centres in Europe located in the South of Portugal – Algarve). Thanks to its mission statement and educational philosophy, our school has drawn many students from other Portuguese areas and more and more from other countries. Now, besides Portuguese students, who want to continue their studies in an international educational system, the student body comprises of 42 nationalities. 

One of its most interesting characteristics is itscurriculum: it encourages the learning of Englishand Portuguese as first languages until the age of ten. Communication and a bilingual environment are always present in all classes. Students may follow the Portuguese curriculum or the Englishcurriculum (British national curriculum), and both are adapted to an international education ethos. A great part of the Portuguese families choose the English studies – British national curriculum.Students and families are guided through their primary studies according to their linguistic background and the need to acquire, at an early age, skills in other linguistic expressions. Levels of study: from the age of three (Portuguese studies) or nursery (English studies) to 12^thyear or class 13 in the English studies.
