The International School of the Sacred Heart belongs to the Sacred Heart Schools' network around the world. The first Sacred Heart school was founded in 1800 in France by the Society of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic women's religious congregation, to form leaders who will make differences around the world. The mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart is formulated in The Goals and Criteria, a document that guides us today. The aim of the Sacred Heart schools is the development of the whole person, providing opportunities for academic and non-academic activities. We want our students to grow in dignity, as human beings and as Children of God.
The International School of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo was founded in 1908. It is an English speaking school for girls from Grade 1 through Grade 12, and a co-educational Kindergarten for three to five year olds. The purpose is to serve the English speaking community in the Tokyo area. The school offers an international program based primarily on the curriculum from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
ISSH is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).
Our current enrollment is approximately 550 students with 45 countries represented in the student body. The faculty and staff represent more than 15 different countries. The school is unique in that we offer a Values program that serves as a thread woven through the academic and non-academic program. The school offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses in High School, and our graduates are accepted into colleges and universities of their first choice in various fields around the world. The school and its staff provide a warm, loving, and caring atmosphere for the students.
