We are a German overseas school. We follow European traditions in education, and ensure further education in the German secoundary school system, either in Germany or abroad.

Education for us is the key to a successful future for all our children, both in kindergarten and in school. Through our mandate to educate and instruct, we concentrate on promoting students talents and furthering their development into liberal-minded, responsible citizens of our society, in a globalised world. Our pedagogical work is based on the following nine principles:

1. We transmit rituals and instill motivation as basic foundations for learning

We place a great deal of importance on imparting the basic skills of education: an assured competence - to be acquired - in arithmetic, reading, writing and the ability to make connections across the curriculum while processing information.

2. We promote social competency.

For the personality development of the students it is necessary to go beyond merely imparting specialised knowledge to develop the social competency of each and every student. Both during the day-to-day routine at school as well as through projects that cut across all subjects and levels, we promote the spirit of togetherness through team work, good conduct, capacity for constructive criticism as well as tolerance and respect for all peoples, religions and cultures. Furthermore, we nurture social activities on a regular basis at DSND and raise our students to treat the environment with care and responsibility.

3. We expect and support active student involvement and sharing of responsibility.

For our students, the DSND is a familiar place of learning both during and after class hours. Student initiative and shared responsibility are both crucial and desirable for a full and successful school life.

4. We give great importance to parent involvement.

The DSND perceives itself as an open, integrative school that seeks and fosters active and trustful communication with our parents, and the participation of both the parents as well as all the other parties involved in school life. Cooperation with the parents is very important for us. Through regular, transparent reporting we inform them about the DSND's activities and the performance of their children.

5. We ensure balanced education.

In furthering artistic and sports activities, we address an important component in personality development. At the DSND our students have the opportunity to participate regularly in the performing arts, in sports /ball games, music/band etc. through co-curricular activities (CCAs). Besides, they can also take part in competitions.

6. We impart key qualifications for the future.

Important prerequisites for a successful education and a successful career are: the ability to work independently, verbal skills, logical thinking, methodological competence, capacity for team work and creativity. Our syllabi and modes of work at the DSND ensure early access to and familiarisation with the international language English, with the information technologies and the natural sciences.

7. We perceive education as a continuous process of development

Imparting both basic education and specialised knowledge is part of our armamentarium for the solid instruction we provide. In providing quality instruction, we aim at strengthening the will for education, which serves our students through school and accompanies them to the outside world. The most important component here is the joy of learning and teaching. Our teachers are forever trying to awaken and stoke their students' enthusiasm for learning.

8. We promote a cultural dialogue with the Asian world.

One of the characteristics of the quality education we offer at the DSND is the opportunity we provide to our children to establish closer contact with the people and the culture of our host country and all of Asia. This is realised in the classroom, in projects, class trips, school partnerships and cultural festivals.

9. We work at developing our school.

We are a school on the move, for only those on the move can discover new things. Forever open to new demands and expectations, we regard quality assurance, internal and external evaluation and continuing education as the driving forces of our endeavour. A dedicated team of qualified staff contributes to the realisation of our mission statement: the school management in cooperation with the Executive Board and the staff implements the DSND's goals and further develops them from the point of view of uniformity, transparency and operating efficiency.
