International School of Monterey

ISM is a public institution dedicated to academic excellence. We seek to provide a challenging, internationally-minded curriculum to families within Monterey County, with flexibility to meet our students' varying needs. We believe education is founded upon the acquisition of skills, knowledge, and understanding needed for success at each grade level. We promote critical thinking, creativity and problem solving, and encourage receptivity to the ideas of others. 

We believe that each student is unique and valuable and that all students should be challenged to reach their full potential. Further, education must foster the academic, intellectual, social, ethical, physical and emotional growth of students.

The objectives of ISM are to:

• Provide an education, in English, which is appropriate to the needs of a diverse student body;

• Create an environment, international in its outlook, which develops knowledge and tolerance of different cultures and beliefs, including the local environment, without promotion of any one more than another;

• Encourage creativity, open inquiry, decision-making and independence of thought;

• Provide the students with a stimulating, caring and positive environment;

• Arrange support for the student whose comprehension of English is insufficient for his or her class;

• Utilize the School's location by organizing a variety of educational activities and field trips;

• Foster collegial relationships with other schools;

• Provide a varied curriculum that is continuously reviewed, evaluated and updated;

• Encourage and support professional growth activities for staff;

• Offer parents the opportunity to be involved in the students' education through regular communication, meetings and participation in school activities.
