Even though a relatively small international school, our 200 students represent more than thirty nations and reflect the international composition of the research and business communities in and around Bergen. ISB is large enough to provide internationally accredited programmes and services, but is small enough to allow everyone to know one another. Your child will be made to feel welcome and will quickly be appreciated for their unique set of strengths and talents.
The International School of Bergen has provided education services in the Bergen area for more than thirty years. It is a thriving school community that works closely together in a positive and challenging way to provide a caring, stimulating and supportive environment so that every child can achieve his or her full potential. We are committed to the programmes of the International Baccalaureate, which offer rigorous and meaningful curriculums for students, and which allow students to develop the skills of learning, a broad knowledge base and an inquiring mind. In this way, ISB students are appropriately equipped to meet a changing and challenging world. Within our educational programmes, we make good use of facilities in the neighbourhood. These include a swimming pool, an ice rink, other sports facilities, a science discovery centre, museums, art galleries and local sites of historical interest. Bergen’s wonderful countryside is just on our doorstep and is used as an extended classroom.
Our teachers are well qualified and commitment to professional development. Our school motto of “Learning for Life” not only applies to our students, but to our team of education professionals too. However, no school can operate successfully in isolation from the homes of its students. ISB is proud of the partnership that exists between our school and the homes of our families. We maintain an open-door policy and invite all of our parents to come to school, to meet with our professional teams and to discuss the development of their child, or children, whenever they feel the need. Education is, after all, a shared responsibility among teachers, students and parents working together with a common purpose.
Our school premises are provided through a long-standing partnership with the City of Bergen. We have also fostered partnerships with local business organisations such as the Bergen Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Business Region Bergen. Further important partnerships exist with Bergen Katedralskole, which offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme for students after Grade 10, and with the Integrated Masters Teacher Education course at the University of Bergen.
