Over its thirty one year history, Braeburn has grown from a single primary school caring for the educational needs of approximately 70 children, to now looking after the well-being of almost 2,700 pupils between 2 and 19 years of age.

Our responsibilities are not taken lightly. Despite the fact we run thirteen schools in both Kenya and Tanzania, we pride ourselves that our brand values are consistently revealed in all our schools. An educational brand which reflects a desire to ensure children are happy and content in their learning. An educational brand where ‘children’ really do come ‘first’. A brand where children of whatever creed or colour accept each other, don’t notice apparent differences, but respect each other for what they believe in and what they are. Our children become confident individuals, responsible citizens and are learners enjoying success.

Our School Headteachers all understand the ethos that prevails in our schools. They understand it, agree with it and develop it. Most have grown up professionally within it and now work as part of the group management team to ensure the ethos is maintained.

The curriculum we follow is the National Curriculum of England and Wales, which we supplement in the later stages of our students’ education by offering IGCSE, AS Level, A Level, IB Diploma, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs (dependent on the educational institution attended). The curriculum is all about identifying and developing talents, whether academic, sporting, dramatic, or any of the other avenues which are presented for children to show what they are capable of. Indeed, the extra-curricular programs in all our schools are extensive and wide-ranging in what they offer. By supporting the academic aspects of school life with a plethora of other cultural, social and interesting events and activities, we ensure our children and students are prepared for the experiences and challenges adult life brings.

At an academic level, in recent years we have consistently improved on previous records. Yet for a group of schools that are not extensively selective, our staff can take as much pride in a student achieving at a much lower level than this, but achieving at their maximum. Historically we have had students enter our schools with specific learning difficulties, but have left achieving at A Level with four maximum grades. Braeburn is providing an education to allow all children within it’s care to grow up happily, and at the same time to be equipped with the social, behavioural, intellectual, and life skills needed for them to be an asset to their families, communities and friends in adulthood, to be ambitious enough to succeed personally and professionally and to be ready to live a fulfilling life.

Our schools are well resourced to ensure the chosen curriculum is covered and covered in an interesting way. Our biggest resource is our teachers, who are dedicated, well-qualified, enthusiastic and well-intentioned professionals.

Braeburn is about people - teaching and non-teaching staff who are committed to ensuring our children grow up in the right way. We are fortunate in that we have parents who have the desire to see their children grow up in the right way and finally, we have children who do grow up in the right way.

That triangle of teachers, parents, and children is strengthened by open communication networks between the players. We actively encourage comment and suggestions by parents and pupils and have often acted on them. Our Headteachers operate an open door policy and we have social events and systems which mean parents are closely involved in our schools.

Our relative successes can be attributed to the teams in place within and between our schools. Loyal staff members, loyal parents and loyal pupils ensure that our ethos is maintained and developed. Our founding and current directors have placed and do place their own children in our schools. Their confidence is shared by many others.

Braeburn has a thirty one year history, but its ambition lies not in the past but to a future where the great, great grandchildren of the present students would happily want their own children placed in the school where they schooled, and where the ethos and values currently displayed would still be unchanged.
