My interest in psychology began while working with American families living on the U.S. Naval base in Yokosuka, Japan. During this experience I assisted family members who were experiencing adjustment difficulties including cultural acclimation, adjustment to major life changes, resource identification and personal growth activities.
My professional experience includes the diagnosis of mental illness, individual counseling, group therapy and family counseling. I treat a wide range of mental health difficulties. Of special interest to me are adjustment, anxiety and mood disorders. I enjoy helping others to express their experiences, seek meanings and work through the challenging processes of healing and change.
Each counselor has his or her own unique approach to the counseling session. It is usually determined by a combination of personality, experience, training and theoretical perspective. My style is best described as informal. I trust in your ability to know when and what you wish to share during sessions. I strive to guide you through the investigation of your thoughts, feelings and experiences at any pace you feel comfortable with.
