The Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) was established and registered on 20th July 1951. The SCCI as a society is providing an avenue for companies carrying on businesses and industries in Sarawak to join as members and in concert to assist in the economic development of Sarawak for the well being of the people. The objectives for which the chamber was established are for the promotion of commerce and industry and the interest of members as well as a channel of communication with the Government and other business chambers and organisations.
Besides its head office in Kuching the SCCI has also set up Regional Committees in Bintulu, Sibu, and Miri to better serve its member companies in these regions.In the interest of cooperation and networking for mutual benefit, the SCCI has established close working relationship with other local-business chambers and elevant associations in Sarawak. At the national level the SCCI is appointed as the sole representative in Sarawak by the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) with reciprocal serving of interest in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. At the regional level the SCCI is a member of the BIMP-EAGA Malaysia Business Council which was formed in 17th April 2000 as well as an associate member of the East Asean Business Council of East Asean Growth Area (EAGA) comprising Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines (BIMP). The SCCI has also established good contacts with business chambers in other countries.
