The Chamber was established in July 1969 in accordance with the company act of Singapore. 

Objectives :
  1. To promote and expand both trade and investments between Singapore and Japan.
  2. To contribute towards the advancement of the Singapore Economy.
  3. To promote and cultivate friendship and mutual co-operation among the members of the Chamber, and at the same time, to contribute towards the advancement of both the Japanese and Singapore economy.

To voice out the members' opinions and suggestions to the Singapore government in order to have a better business environment. For example, in the year 2002, some major issues were discussed :

  • Power Supply Agreement with Power Grid Ltd.
  • Power Failure on 5th August 2002
  • Memrandum of Understanding for mutual corporation between Batam Industrial Development Authority and JCCI
  • Recommendation for Amendments to SIA Condition of Contract
  • Tax Haven Issue
  • Appreciation for the efficient measures and transparent attitude which the Singapore 
    Government has taken in handling the outbreak of SARS
  • Appeal For Government-Led Measures Against Ban On Sand Export By Indonesia
