The American Chamber of Commerce in Australia (AmCham) is Australia's largest international Chamber of Commerce and premier international business organisation. Founded in 1961, the Chamber's objectives are:

To promote the two-way flow of trade and investment, primarily between the United States and Australia, and to help business links with other countries. To provide information on trade and business activities to its members.

  • To interpret and present the point of view of Australian commercial interests to the American business public and to lend all practical assistance to Australian interests seeking to enter the United States market, or wishing to develop their activities in the US.
  • To distil and represent the business views of its members before government in Washington and Canberra.
  • To endorse the standing of its members in the local business and international communities.
  • To develop a broad range of community-oriented programs - directed toward students, labor unions, consumers and politicians - to encourage a better understanding of the role of business in a competitive market system, and to contribute in a positive way to the community at large.

AmCham has 1,700 corporate members, and offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Publications of the Chamber include the USA/Australia Trade Directory and various e-format newsletters, including, "AmCham Alerts".

Membership of AmCham provides access to a world-wide network. AmCham is affiliated with the United States Chamber of Commerce, which links with other chambers of commerce throughout the United States. AmCham also has extensive links and affiliations with Australian industry organisations.

Through the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC), AmCham Australia is involved in issues that affect American and Australian businesses operating in the Asia-Pacific region. The Chamber provides a number of services to assist business, including:

  • AmCham represents our members at the highest levels of government in Canberra and Washington DC. Our advocacy achieves tangible results for members.
  • AmCham links our members to a worldwide network in over 80 countries including 20 in the Asia-Pacific region.
