The Society was founded in Stockholm in 1949 with the purpose of encouraging and developing the mutual cultural ties between Sweden and Ireland.

Today, the Society has some 300 members – both Swedes and Irish – most of whom live in the greater Stockholm area, but there are also members throughout the country, from Malmö to Luleå.

The Society holds approximately six events in Stockholm during the year.  The main events are the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, an annual Crab party (held in October), the Christmas party, and Annual General Meeting. Other activities vary from year to year and include concerts, whiskey tasting, boat trips, lectures/theatre, Irish music, and table quizzes.
